What is Aviso?
Aviso is a free mobile app built to let trained storm spotters send verified hazard reports to agencies in under 30 seconds. We are in early pilot with no NWS partnership yet; today reports are collected and organized by our team.
Who can use Aviso?
SKYWARN-certified spotters, emergency managers, and experienced storm chasers. The pilot prioritizes trained reporters; anyone can join the waitlist. Aviso has no official NWS or SKYWARN affiliation at this time.
How much does Aviso cost?
Reporting is planned to be free forever for individual spotters and volunteers. Agency features may be offered at cost later, but the core reporting path stays free.
How is Aviso different from calling the NWS or using ham radio?
Aviso is designed to structure the report at the source, verify the location, and prepare it for fast delivery to the responsible office. During the pilot, reports are reviewed by the Aviso team; direct routing to agencies will follow once formal partnerships are in place.
Do I need SKYWARN training to join?
For the pilot we prioritize SKYWARN-trained spotters, but committed observers with a track record are welcome to apply. SKYWARN training is free from the NWS.
